Ten years ago, Foam opened its doors and quickly became one of Amsterdam’s cultural hotspots. Foam is the place to see and learn about exciting photography, to attend talks and debates, film screenings or even to buy a high-quality print at Foam Editions. But it’s also a place to go on a Friday night, an inspiring getaway on a weekday lunch break, or simply a place to meet with a friend. Above all, Foam is a must-see for every art-loving visitor to the city. Exploring, expanding, questioning, revealing and celebrating the world of photography: Foam did it all in this special anniversary year. Instead of looking back, the museum took the occasion of its 10th anniversary to plunge into the future by asking, ‘what’s next?’. This led to a grand finale, an exhibition that challenged the frontiers of photography. In the meantime, two new exhibition spaces were opened, we experienced our busiest summer ever, and dozens of well-known and upcoming talents presented their photographic views. This album offers an abundant selection of unforgettable images and highlights of 2011. It’s all about combining an eye for detail with a focus on the bigger picture.
