ABOUT THIS WORK
"In If Spring Could Feel Ache, we see soul-searching portraits of the young Chinese gay community melded with glimpses of urban life. These photos, however, do not come unscathed – they present a city in unpeaceful coexistence with nature: butterflies trapped in a container, the petals of a torn rose pierced with needles, stones tied together. Images of ‘seized’ nature and introspective portraits of youngsters lost in the fog of their thoughts translate well how suffocating and isolating life is, when stripped of its full potential. Linked by repressive forces, nature and people craft together a full-bodied sense of captivity, of vulnerability. A single, compelling image of the pains of being exposed to a world not entirely prepared to accommodate them, just like flowers growing through concrete."
Text by Henri Badaröh from Foam Magazine #58, the Talent issue.
