ABOUT THE WORK
This portrait of Chloë Sevigny was made for Interview Magazine in 2000. It is a hyper realistic portrait with a focus on the individual, shot against a neutral background, in cold colours. A style Blommers & Schumm became renowned for. Chloë Stevens Sevigny (b. 1974) is an American actress, fashion designer, and former model. She gained a reputation for her eclectic fashion sense, and developed a broad career in the fashion industry in the mid-to-late 1990s for modelling and her intern work at New York's Sassy Magazine, which labelled her the new ‘It Girl’ at the time and garnered her attention within the New York fashion scene. Throughout her early film career, her fashion choices often overshadowed her acting career. In 2000, she won the VH1 Vogue Fashion Award for best female celebrity style. The following year, Vogue  called her a ‘fashion icon’ and one of the ‘coolest women in the world.’

ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHERS
Anuschka Blommers (b. 1969) and Niels Schumm (b. 1969) both studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam. They started working together in 1998. Blommers and Schumm question the status quo of fashion photography by operating in a grey zone between fashion, art and photography, with shifting perspectives, where images move back and forth between different meanings. A state of uncertainty thus emerges in which merely an expression or a small detail seems capable of turning an image upside down.

Their photographs have been published in magazines such as Fantastic Man, The Gentlewoman, Another Magazine, Purple, Interview Magazine, i-D, Dazed & Confused and The New York Times Magazine. Meanwhile their work has been exhibited in museums and galleries among The Stedelijk museum Amsterdam, The Groninger museum, Foam Amsterdam, Schirn kunsthalle Frankfurt, ICA in Boston and Deichtorhallen in Hamburg among others.
