ABOUT THE WORK
This colourful still life is created of products the photographer found on Dalston’s Ridley Road Market, located in the London borough of Hackney.
‘Over more than a year, living between my studio and the market I collected every type of organic and inanimate object and debris, found or given to me by the sellers: plastic bags, worn, mouldy planks, clothes, wigs, dust. These found objects were to form a distillation of the market as still life sculptures, a reassembly of its raw elements with my own hands, reworking the anatomies of its characters attempting to capture and communicate the essence of this unique place.’ – Lorenzo Vitturi
ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER
Lorenzo Vitturi (1980, IT) lives and works in London. After graduating in photography and graphic design at European Design Institute in Rome he received a scholarship at Fabrica, Italy. He started out as a cinema set-painter in the movie industry in Rome and has brought this experience into his photographic projects, which revolve around site-specific installations using space, light and matter. The body of work of Vitturi investigates urban changes beyond Western cities, processes of cultural mixing and their complexities, and the movement of people and goods in a globalised world.
In 2019 Foam made the exhibition Materia Impura, which summarized ten years of research and combined Vitturi’s earlier projects Dalston Anatomy, Droste Effect, Debris and Other Problems and Money Must Be Made with works from the recent series Caminantes.
