ABOUT THE WORK
‘Each place has a story’, Noordkamp says. ‘The buildings are the decor against which the people are playing their roles.’ The estranged character of this picture is almost touchable. The image reflects an atmosphere of loneliness and melancholy. What has happened here? The joined story of the church, the tragic family history and the role of Noordkamp herself makes this image so intriguing, apart from its great design, simplicity and aesthetics.
Foam Editions offers this print since the exhibition of Petra Noordkamp’s La Madre at Foam in 2012.
ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER
Petra Noordkamp (b. 1967) graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in 2000, with a major in photography. She has had numerous exhibitions and has been published in magazines such as The Purple Journal, Club Donny and Mister Motley. In addition to her personal projects, Noordkamp also works on assignment for publications including Volkskrant Magazine, Avenue, Rails and NRC Focus. Noordkamp's work explores the coloured look, the influence of experiences, memories, movies and dreams on the perception of architecture and the urban environment.
