Foam Magazine #27: Report

Central to this issue are the widely differing strategies for reporting on ´the world´. Eight portfolios reveal a critical attitude towards the medium, the function of news images were to primarily provide us with convincing proof and accuracy of reports, now after fundamental changes have taken place in the dynamics of photography, major shifts have rocked photojournalism in particular.

Visible in the work of Michael Christopher Brown in Libya created with an app on his iPhone, Chris de Bode´s coverage of the exodus of refugees from the same country, or Mikhael Subotzky and Patrick Waterhouse´s portrayal of the Johannesburg apartment tower and its residents. This issue reveals the artists´ continual engagement and critical awareness of photographic images as reports.

Also included, an extensive interview with Lev Manovich, an expert on new media and information technology. Plus an ‘On My Mind’ feature from 6 cultural figures talking about images on their minds and plenty of book reviews.
