Foam Magazine #3: Access

This issue adopts the theme of Access, a concept wide open to interpretation. Photographers ‘provide’ access to the world, in the sense that they disclose and make visible what might otherwise remain unnoticed; or at least would not be seen in that particular way. Featuring six portfolio’s by six photographers who interpret this access in a variety of unexpected ways.

Mario Testino photographs today’s icons of fashion, film and music in private situations, with snapshots peeking into the other side of celebrity life. Philippine Hoegen makes a more uninvited intrusion in people’s lives by living for some time in people’s houses when they are not around in On the 3rd Floor, discovering what it is that makes these surroundings feel safe and familiar to their inhabitants. Afghan writer and film maker Atiq Rahimi takes us, after twenty years of living in exile, on a visit to Kabul; presenting an intense confrontation with a city that has been the scene of dramatic events for so long.
