ABOUT THE WORK
Illustrations of the book Les Merveilles du Louvre (Hachette, Paris, 1958) merge with found objects from the Plage des Phocéens, the beach upon which Aëgerter grew up in Marseille.
Louvre Plage photographs give the treasures of the Louvre museum a new dimension: the timelessness of the familiar objects meld with the iconic masterpieces. The eroded objects from different eras raise awareness about the transience of the found objects as well as that of the masterpieces.
ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER
In an on-going process which oscillates between projects in public space, photography and artist’s books, Aëgerter’s work addresses the permanent transformation that lies in the essence of things. She examines the archive that shapes our collective memory. Displacement and translation play an important part in her work. Accurate reconstruction coexists with staged coincidence.
Over the past years she has exhibited in several international solo and group shows. Recent solo exhibitions include: Le Louvre, MAMAC Nice; The Modernists and More, Hermitage Museum Amsterdam; Herbarium Cataplasma, Fries Museum, Leeuwarden. Recent group shows: From Here On, Arts Santa Monica Museum, Barcelona/ FoMu, Antwerp; Les rencontres de la photographie, Arles; Making Africa, Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao; Quickscan #2, Nederlands Fotomuseum, Rotterdam. In 2016 Aëgerter was awarded with the International Photography Nestlé Price, Festival Images, Vevey (CH).
