ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER
Paul Huf (NL, 1924-2002), son of actor Paul Huf Sr., is still the Netherlands' most renowned (portrait) photographer. He portrayed many Dutch celebrities, but also became known for his advertising photography (e.g. the campaign Craftsmanship is Mastery by Grolsch) and fashion photography. Huf's photographs are glamorous and have an almost un-Dutch allure. His series of sixty colour record sleeves for classical music commissioned by Philips in 1954 was legendary. This inspired Annie M.G. Schmidt to write the song De Hoezepoes. Huf also made films, including a documentary portrait of painter Carel Willink (1975). In 2000, the Rijksmuseum decided to name a photography acquisition fund after him, the Paul Huf Fund. In the same year, the AVRO broadcasted the documentary Paul Huf in the Close Up programme series.

Paul Huf created his images with humour, people skills and ingenuity, creating unique compositions characterised by theatricality and the use of colour. The exhibition Golden Years at Foam is an exceptional opportunity to celebrate Huf's legacy and his undeniable impact on the world of photography.
Paul Huf was an important ambassador for the establishment of Foam in 2001. To honour this special relationship, the Foam Paul Huf Award was created in 2007 to stimulate and support photographers on a global scale. The internationally acclaimed photography prize aims to support generational talents and is awarded by an international independent professional jury. Previous winners include Pieter Hugo, Alex Prager and Hiền Hoàng.

ABOUT THIS WORK
Rita Loonen, better known as Bonny Huf, met Paul Huf at a young age during a photoshoot for the cigarette brand Peter Stuyvesant. In her own words, she 'immediately fell in love'. She was then at the beginning of her career and one of the first professional models in the Netherlands. Bonny and Paul Huf married in the 1980's. Of all the people and models Huf had photographed, Bonny was his greatest muze.
This image was part of a campaign shoot for Jolo Couture in Breukelen, near Utrecht, in 1961.
