ABOUT THIS WORK
"Dahlia is a flower. Maybe a car. Definitely a mother. In this project I found a way to reclaim what has been hijacked by the masculine kingdom. Women and cars. Subjects of advertisement, objects of home. By focusing on both their levels of intimacy and anonymity, I realized cars are as personal and universal as the female body. Skin and metal - covering frames to protect our insides from the outside."
Vera van Dam

ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER
Vera van Dam (1989) is an Amsterdam based artist. She focuses on researching femininity in society and is drawn to filmic framing involving enigmatic elements. After her studies at the University of Amsterdam she fully committed to photography as a medium as a visual artist. After studying at the Photo Academy she explored photography as an artist in residence in Berlin. Back in Amsterdam Van Dam started as assistant of photographer Paul Kooiker. She is currently working on various autonomous projects. This year she plans to release a first publication from the project, Dahlia
