After its short absence, Foam Magazine is back - even more vibrant, more thought-provoking, more surprising and bigger than before. However, the basics remain unchanged: there is a single theme, which unites six different portfolios of 16 pages each. As in the past, the diversity of the portfolios is an essential element of Foam Magazine. For it is this diversity that makes it possible to approach the theme from a variety of angles, move beyond specific genres and identify surprising links between work with quite different backgrounds and goals.

The theme central to this issue of Foam Magazine is Eden. Besides the obvious connotation of the idyllic garden from which Adam and Eve were expelled, Eden also serves as a metaphor for an imagined haven of peace and tranquillity for which we all yearn, though we may be unaware of it. The conviction that there is room for improvement in society and in our personal lives is an important motivation for human endeavour, idealism and activism. This may come to the surface in political and religious movements, but also in individual attempts to in still life with meaning. Of course, creating heaven on earth is an unattainable ideal. Attempts to improve society are often touchingly naive or degenerate into the opposite. The Garden of Eden has many faces. Our way of addressing the theme does justice to a whole range of possibilities interpretations while also enabling us to present various photographic genres in a coherent fashion.
