ABOUT THE WORK
Perched on a rugged mountain overlooking eastern Jerusalem, a group of young Bedouin children live in a world shaped by resilience and siege. For generations, their families have called this rocky slope home, even as it has been repeatedly targeted by Israeli forces and threatened with occupation. In recent years, waves of home demolitions have forced the community into a cycle of displacement and return—tearing down and rebuilding, again and again, on the same contested ground. Today, the mountain is encircled by the looming concrete of the separation wall. Overhead, drones hum ceaselessly, surveilling every aspect of daily life. On the ground, military bulldozers prowl, their presence a constant reminder of the fragile line between permanence and erasure. Families live under the weight of uncertainty, hemmed in and harassed, made prisoners on their own ancestral land. And yet, their eyes remain fixed on Jerusalem—a city just beyond reach, and yet so deeply woven into their sense of belonging. As the Israeli army intensifies its efforts to expel them, the villagers’ answer is quiet but resolute: steadfastness. In the face of overwhelming force, they endure, refusing to surrender the mountain that has shaped their lives.
Eastern Jerusalem, Palestine.
