About the work
Masculine Fecundity is an inquiry into the concept of masculinity, and how ideas thereof develop in young boys. Fecundity measures the embodiment of fertility, whereby a boy begins the passage to being a man. A process that is often neglected. According to Aàdesokan, when becoming the man one decides to be, one must resolve the interdependence of character and figure in the age-old image of masculinity. In his work, Aàdesokan proposes a persistent manoeuvring through predisposed expectations and societal indoctrination of gender roles. This brings him to the questions: what makes a man? Masculine Fecundity?
About the photographer
Aàdesokan (b. 1994, Lagos) creates for revelation and aims to interrogate the mind. His own mind and its endless perceptions have been exposed to various psychoanalytic methodologies by his psychologist father at an early age.
Although his expressions are eclectic, his works usually stem from ceaseless inquisitions realised through research whilst leveraging his background education as a Mechanical Engineer to formulate balanced compositions of art, photography and literature.
Aàdesokan was one of the Foam Talents of 2020.
