About the photographer
Isabelle Wenzel (1982, DE) studied to be a photographer at the Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, but is also a trained acrobat. Within the 10 seconds that the self-timer allows her, she adopts an impossible position and continues to hold it until till the shutter is closing. By making a photograph, she freezes a pose in time as it were, and in doing so draws attention to the sculptural qualities of the body.
Wenzel received several grants like the European Photo Exhibition Award from the Körber-Stiftung Hamburg in 2011 and the Mondriaan Fonds in 2013, among others. Her work has been widely exhibited in national and international group and solo shows. The work of Wenzel is also part of the Foam Collection and was shown at Unseen Photo Fair several times.
