About the work
The photographs in this series, taken across various locations in the Alps, not only showcase the region’s majestic landscapes but also symbolize the irreversible changes our planet is undergoing. Some glaciers, protected by blankets to delay their melting, mirror the nostalgic desire to preserve a past that cannot be reclaimed.
Like film stills, the images are frozen fragments that embody a longing for an idealized past. This past is more like a narrative constructed from selective memories rather than historical facts. Alternating between digital images and 16mm film stills, the series further amplifies the tension between how we construct memory and how we document reality.
Hotel Belvedere seeks to engage in a dialogue about how we remember the past, face the complexities of the present, and question what will remain as the future unfolds.
