About this work
A snapshot of Amsterdam's Sloterplas in the 1960s, showing a group of students hanging out. In the foreground is Joan Delaney, who later became an actress known for roles in The President’s Analyst, Don’t Drink the Water, and Bunny O’Hare.
About the photographer
Paul Huf (1924–2002) is one of the Netherlands’ most celebrated portrait photographers. Known for his glamorous style, Huf captured countless Dutch celebrities and made his mark with striking advertising and fashion photography—including the iconic Craftsmanship is Mastery campaign for Grolsch. His 1954 series of colourful classical music record sleeves for Philips became legendary and even inspired a song by Annie M.G. Schmidt.
Huf’s work is playful, theatrical and rich in colour. He was also a filmmaker and created a documentary about painter Carel Willink. In 2000, the Rijksmuseum established the Paul Huf Fund in his honour. A year later, he played a key role in the founding of Foam. To celebrate this connection, the Foam Paul Huf Award was launched in 2007 to support emerging photographic talent worldwide.
