About the work
Samuel Gratacap's photographic series explores the challenging journeys of Mediterranean migrants over nearly a decade. His lens captures key transition points including Lampedusa and a Marseille detention center. The contrast between his refined visual style and the difficult subject matter is striking. Gratacap explores themes of displacement, identity, and belonging, questioning how individuals navigate the complex emotional territory between abandoning home and facing rejection elsewhere. His work examines how the human body physically manifests these experiences of rootlessness and exclusion.
